Scuba Diving

Hello, my name is Rio Seran. At this moment, I working as a dive guide at Maumere’s Bay, which located on the east side of Flores Island. I never imagine before that I took this job after graduated from the college of philosophy at St.Paul Ledalero. It’s quite different, isn’t it? By the way, I’m still looking of the connection between what I learned before and what I did now.
But to be honest, it’s totally cool. By meet and share stories with another diver, getting wet all the time, being amaze with the beautiful of underwater life,.. always make it’s own way to having such unforgettable and memorable experiences. I really love this job and couldn’t stop!!

Scuba Diving

I was a good swimmer as a child, however had a huge phobia of the ocean. I was 10 years old for my first trip to the Great Barrier Reef and I was adamant I was not getting in the water. Nevertheless, out on the pontoon, my jealousy of my  dad snorkelling grew as he boasted about how amazing the experience was. Miraculously, I had this wave of determination and curiosity… before I knew it I had jumped in the water, (nearly braking my mothers hand in the process because I was so scared)! The moment I hit the water, I was mesmerised. The beauty of the underwater world was so overwhelming,  I was astonished. From that moment I was totally hooked. As soon as I turned 12 I began intro diving and once I was 15 I earnt my PADI Open Water Cert, a year later my Advanced Open Water. I’m now working towards becoming Dive Master.

Scuba Diving

Hello, My Name is Jerry Raymond. My wife’s name is Dawn Raymond. Together, we are running Debloopodyssey, http://debloopodyssey.co a web site we put together to share what we learn along the way in our Odyssey.

I am a forty nine year old man that learned to scuba dive in the cold waters of Lake Ontario, New York, USA at the young age of twelve. I currently live in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. My favorite meal is spaghetti, as long as it is cooked right.

My wife, Dawn Raymond had just gotten her Open Water certification last year but we both have been dry since then. We both are working hard this year to get back in the water and to do what it takes to get to the top rank of PADI Course Director. This is part of what will be included in our web site.

The most special scuba diving experience for me, so far, was the first time I took my fifteen year old son diving for the first time. His face lit up when he realized why scuba diving meant so much to me. Every dive though out the years, a little over one thousand dives, have been special in their own way making it difficult for me to pick one experience over another.

As for our website, it will not just be about scuba diving. Our odyssey is about going from Truck Driving to World Adventurers. We are also going to Full Sail University for Cinematography so we can produce documentary films along the way. We want to live what many people only dream about.

Scuba Diving Malaysia

Diving for almost 2 years around Thailand and Indonesia, it was time I explored my own country. Being Malaysian and meeting other divers on dive trips, they always tell me how lucky I am to be living in paradise and how beautiful the underwater scene is in Malaysia.

Today I can honestly say I can vouch them word for word. Malaysia does have an amazing underwater paradise. Sipadan is of course one of the best sites. Diving with schools of reef sharks, hammerheads, barracudas and turtles is just amazing. You just don’t know what to expect, one moment you’d see a school of white tip sharks passing by, the next a hammerhead would surface from the deep. Whales has even been spotted during migration season same as Whale Sharks and Manta Rays.

Its an exciting island to dive, the marine life is exceptional as well as it’s reef. Only when I dived here did I see hard corals in every hue of the rainbow. The quality of its coral is still in pristine condition, which is why its marine life is still well preserved. As Jacques Cousteau said when he visited this island, “Now we have found an untouched piece of art”, and it is still that same untouched piece of art.

Truly one of the best dives I’ve done so far. One I would highly recommend to be added to a diver’s bucket list of places to dive.

My first dive experience was when I was 18, in Arrial do Cabo, Rio de janeiro. I could not believe what I was seeing! The beauty and peace that I was feeling at that dive was amazing! At the time I was studying Biology and it was a dream to see all that sea life and have that experience! I knew that would not be my last dive.

My first dive experience was incredible. I ask myself today, why did it take so long for me to dive and feel this amazing experience, it’s simply incredible to be able to interact with the undersee life, off course, by just observing, to preserve!

I just fell in love and this year, I’m going to do my open water dive certification.

My first dive experience was in 1979 in Corfu, Greece, where I could borrow somebody’s dive gear and try it without buddy or whatever. I was only told: “do not go below 8 meters and come back before the air is finished”.
